I just have a few more blog post I want to do and then I will start my spring outfits. I cannot wait! I still have so many ideas to show you all. Before the winter finally ends here in New Jersey, spring decided to come late for us, I wanted to wear this green velvet maxi dress for you all.
I got it on sale at the end of December from Torrid. I just found it stunning, I really love wearing velvet this winter. I just love velvet, even as a kid I loved wearing my velvet tracksuit to school. It’s always been a warm, comfy fabric and it will be appearing this spring in lighter colors. Clearly, this dark green is such a winter color I couldn’t wait for the spring to show you. I waited and waited all winter to wear this, but the cold would not let-up this season so I went out on one of the windiest days in March and shot this. My hair was all over the place. I kept on moving it out of the way but it kept on getting messed-up. I even tried taking off my coat for you all to see the full dress but it was so cold I only could take it off for a few shots. And the kept on blowing my tripod out of the center.
I paired the dress with my faux fur cheetah print coat that I’ve had for a couple of years now. My fiancé says I should get rid of it because I never wear it but I love it so much. I feel that I still see this type of printed coat all over the place, it is such a classic coat to have. I’m not ready to let it go just yet. I added a few more statement pieces: a mother of pearl necklace from the 1940’s, a tennis bracelet, and a Channel look-a-like bag (I cannot afford a real one and this bag, although is not the real deal is still a great bag). Then, of course, I paired it with my suede wedges. I don’t like wearing ridiculous four-inch heels, they are never practical for a night out walking around town.
This outfit is perfect for a night on the town, or to a cold weather wedding, or just a formal event. My fiancé and I have a strict no glitter policy in our house or anywhere we go. So I do not wear anything with glitter on it, not even my accessories. So I have to find other ways to stand out and make something look shiny. The sheen of the velvet helps with the sparkle effect see on evening outfits these days. I class it up with tennis bracelet and pearls, but both the bracelet and the necklace will class anything up and never go out of style.
Over the past year, I think my style has changed very much. I am starting to see that with this outfit. I also am starting to not find joy in certain clothes I have that I use to before over the years. I am doing this thing where I am getting rid of clothes and accessories in my closet that does not give me any joy we I see it. So every time I am looking for something and I find an article of clothing that I do not like anymore I just throw it in a pile that I have and sell it. I think this is a great idea, plus it helps me get money for new clothes.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
Love you all,
Valerie (a.k.a Jersey Girl)
